~~  Boy vs. Girl ~~

We are often asked to tell the difference in personality, trainability and temperament between a male and a female.
Our reply is always the same.  To us, it depends on the dog.  Every dog is different as are humans. I have dogs of
both genders in the house nearly all the time.

In my house I have a neutered male, a spayed female and two intact females.  The male is laid back, easy going,
loyal to certain people and has a memory like an elephant.  The girls, love everyone just the same and are happy go
lucky dogs.  All of them were easy to house train and crate train.

If you are considering adding a cockapoo to your family and you already have a dog,  take into consideration how
you interact with your dog, how your dog interacts with other dogs of the same or opposite sex in his home, when
you visit another home or park.   In my opinion, if your dog has been spayed/neutered at a young age then it really
doesn't matter when you introduce another dog of either sex into the home.

Boys
  •   stay puppylike longer (mature slower than girls)
  •   males are very easy going, happy go lucky and as adults calm in temperment
  •   are less likely to hump/mark if they are neutered in the 4 - 6 mos. age but may hump if they feel threatened as a sign of dominance
  •   are less territorial and aggressive
  •   males seem to be more forgiving & do not hold grudge
  •   males seldom have difficulty getting along with females
  •   mature more quickly & settle in sooner

Girls
  •    will hump/mark as a sign of dominance (has nothing do to w/ breeding or sex)
  •   girls are people oriented in that the like to be right by you at all times
  •   are active and very inquisitive even as they get older
  •   girls love everyone, but have a tendancy to choose "favorites"
  •   females seldom have little difficulty getting along with males
