Cockapoo Sizes
Cockapoos vary in color and size. Both size and color are determined genetically from both of its parents and their recent heritage. Cockapoos will show strong character of both parents, but they definitely show both parents in a unique way that gives a first generation Cockapoo a classic look.
Remember that Toy and Miniature Poodles were bred down from a Standard Poodle. So, the genes for a larger poodle is in both the toy & miniature poodles. Toy poodle breeders do get miniature poodles in their litters and miniature poodle breeders can have toy and standard poodles in their litters. This does make it a bit more difficult to estimate adult Cockapoo size.
We breed Toy, Miniature and Maxi Cockapoos. Most of the time we only have Miniature Cockapoos. Occasionally we have Toy and Maxi size Cockapoos.
We raise Cockapoo Puppies in two sizes:
Miniature Cockapoos A Miniature Cockapoo is about 11" to 15" tall and they usually weigh about 13-30 lbs.
Toy Cockapoos A Toy Cockapoo is about 10"tall and they usually weigh about 12 lbs or less.
A Maxi Cockapoo is over 15" tall and over 30 lbs.
NOTE: It is very difficult, not impossible as it has happened here, to have a Toy Cockapoo out of a Cocker & Poodle. Cocker Spaniel girls, per the American Spaniel Club standard, are 13 1/2" tall and about 20 lbs. Many cocker spaniel breeders have bred the cocker to be smaller however the genes for the correct size cocker are still there. Toy Poodles have been bred down from Standard Poodles. Toy Poodle Breeders get Mini Poodles in their Toy Poodle litters and Mini Poodle breeders get small Standard Poodles in their litters. So, when you combine a cocker and a poodle, the chances of getting a Toy Cockapoo is very small. Most are Miniature Cockapoos averaging 18 to 25 lbs and 12" to 15" tall. Occasionally Mom Nature has a different idea of what size the dog will be even tho we have given our best guess based on size of Mom & Dad.
